Project Overview
In early 2013 adidas launched Boost, a revolutionary running shoe made of a unique material that absorbs and returns energy to the runner more effectively than any other. Instead of just telling people about Boost, we decided to show them how this energy return felt. We created an installation at the entrance of the Santiago Marathon expo that harvested energy from the footsteps of the 25,000 runners arriving to pick up their race packs. This energy was then stored in a battery that was used to power motivational messages displayed in the final kilometer of the race. Messages were synchronized with the unique bib numbers of each runner, allowing friends and family to personalize messages and upload photos when the runners needed a boost most.Client
