Project Overview

In February of 2013, the executive board of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) voted to remove wrestling from the Olympic Games in 2020. In response, Ketchum Sports and Entertainment (KSE) teamed up with the Committee to Preserve Olympic Wrestling (CPOW) to lead the fight for wrestling to remain part of the Olympic Program. Through partnerships with USA Wrestling and FILA (Wrestling’s International Governing Body) KSE arranged a historic wrestling match at Grand Central Terminal known “Rumble on the Rails.” Prior to the event KSE arranged exclusive press conferences for international media at the United Nations and engaged with key influencers and dignitaries to celebrate wrestling’s role in addressing social, economic and political challenges around the world. The campaign garnered over 1,500 media placements over the course of seven months, accrued 13,000 Twitter followers in the two days surrounding “Rumble on the Rails” and ultimately persevered in getting wrestling reinstated in the Olympic Games.
