Project Overview
GrandVision, the world’s largest optical retail network based in Amsterdam, embarked on an ambitious project to enhance its eCommerce capabilities across Latin America. Collaborating with Wagento, a specialized Magento development agency, GrandVision aimed to modernize its online presence and backend systems to better serve its expansive customer base across 40 countries.
The project's primary objective was to replace GrandVision's outdated JavaScript-based backend with Magento Cloud and integrate Magento Order Management. This was particularly crucial for seamlessly connecting 40 optical stores in Peru initially, with plans to expand this integration to other Latin American countries like Colombia, Argentina, and Mexico.
Despite encountering initial challenges with incompatible middleware, Wagento's development team innovatively overcame these hurdles by customizing Magento's middleware and linking external ERP systems in warehouses directly to Magento. This approach not only facilitated efficient order management but also streamlined the operation of customized Point of Sale (POS) systems across the stores.
The launch of the site proved transformative for GrandVision’s operations in Peru, enabling real-time connectivity between the stores’ POS systems and the Magento backend, thus enhancing operational efficiency and customer service. This success has positioned GrandVision strongly in the Latin American market and reaffirmed Wagento's expertise in developing sophisticated eCommerce solutions tailored to specific regional needs.
